New Series Begins January 6th, 2019!
at Body Bliss Yoga

Patanjali describes 8 limbs of yoga which work together to generate a heightened state of mindfulness, yet most of us practice only one – asana. This class will focus on expanding beyond the most familiar limb of asana, or the physical postures. During this session we will highlight pranayama (breath energy), pratyahara (withdrawing the senses), and dharana (concentration/meditation prep) in weekly class. Simultaneously we will read, on our own, about the yamas & niyamas (ethical principles) that will culminate in an extended discussion class the last Sunday of the month.

What to expect…
After a short gentle yoga practice, students will be introduced to an aspect of Yoga philosophy. They will then be led through basic yogic breathing techniques (pranayama) to align the subtle energies in our body and mind. Yoga mantras and sensory exercises may also be introduced during class to help focus the mind. We will conclude with a seated or restorative “meditation” in which we simply observe the breath.

Utilizing the multiple aspects of Yoga philosophy and techniques in developing a mindfulness practice can help reduce stress, boost positive productivity, keep us safer in vinyasa and hatha classes, and raise compassion for ourselves and others. Learning to calm and focus the mind with breath awareness is a powerful tool of yoga. Learning to be aware of our thoughts without attaching ourselves to the storyline helps us stay present and have a “big picture” mindset.

Dedicating ourselves to a weekly session, in a supportive community environment, can help set us on a track for success and Introduce ideas for deeper home practice and continued self-guided study.

*Please note the last class of this series is 2 hours long.
